Female Volunteer Support Assistant

Detailed Description

A volunteering opportunity has arisen for a support volunteer in the Poppy Project. Poppy is the largest independent UK-based project offering specialist accommodation, support and outreach services to women trafficked to the UK for the purpose of sexual exploitation and domestic servitude. Poppy combines direct services, support and advocacy with research, development and lobbying, and consists of an accommodation and support team, and a research and development team.

The Female Volunteer Support Assistant will:

  • Provide assistance to the women supported by the Poppy Project in immigration detention or prisons
  • Befriend women supported and accommodated by the Poppy Project
  • Accompany women to and from appointments, as directed by the support team
  • Collate and analyse data for research projects
  • Offer other assistance to the support team and/or the women as required

Ideally applicants will have some experience and knowledge around the following areas:

  • Previous experience working with vulnerable people, gained in voluntary, professional or domestic capacity
  • Good team working skills
  • Good empathic skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, service users and external agencies
  • Ability to cope with pressure

Hours of Work:

We hope that you will be able to volunteer with us for at least two-three days per week for a minimum of three months so that we can each get the most from the volunteering experience. This can be arranged around your availability.

Office working hours are Monday - Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm
